The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
